US 2015 EPS exports up by 5% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)–US expandable polystyrene (EPS) exports for 2015 were up by 5% from 2014, according to data made available this week by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

The increase was the result of more volumes shipped to Mexico, according to the data. Mexico is by far the largest destination for US EPS, comprising 67% of total exports in 2015 – up from 58% in 2014.

Year on year exports fell slightly (no percentage points) in December. Month on month exports rose by 2% in December, according to the data.

Meanwhile, US EPS imports for 2015 were up by 1% from 2014. The increase was the result of more volumes shipped from Mexico and Canada, according to the data.

Year on year imports rose by 5% in December, while month on month imports fell by 9% in December, according to the ITC data.

US EPS exports have been very flat over the last five years (See graph).

US EPS producers include Dart Polymers, Flint Hills Resources, Nova Chemicals and StyroChem International.
