MOSCOW (MRC)–Overall imports of unmixed polyvinyl chloride (PVC) into Belarus in January-February dropped by 17.4% year on year, totalling 2,800 tonnes, according to MRC DataScope report on Wednesday.

According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, February PVC imports to Belarus rose to 1,600 tonnes from 1,200 tonnes a month earlier.

The higher purchasing of resin was caused by both long New Year holidays and outages for maintenance at local plants in January, as well as the desire of some companies to build up additional inventories of material in anticipation of the start of the season.

Russian producers became the key PVC suppliers to the local market over the stated period. Their share grew to 87% this year, with overall shipments totalling slightly over 2,400 tonnes.
