HOUSTON (ICIS)–Production issues have forced Cornerstone Chemical to take its 75,000 tonne/year plant at Waggaman, Louisiana, down for an unplanned turnaround, the company said on Tuesday.

It is unclear what the current problem is or how the long the plant will be down.

The company in March announced that it would conduct a major turnaround in late summer/early fall. The turnaround was expected to last three to four weeks.

However, due to the fact that Cornerstone had already build up supply ahead of the planned turnaround, and because of the current issues at the plant, Cornerstone said that it is delaying the turnaround to a time that has yet to be determined.

Cornerstone Chemical is the only melamine producer in the US.
