SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Thailand’s PTTGC late on Monday shut its No 1 aromatics unit at Map Ta Phut following a power outage, a market source with direct knowledge of the matter said.

A disruption at the plant’s power supplier forced the shutdown of the plant which can produce 460,000 tonnes/year of benzene, the source said.

The facility, which was initially scheduled to shut in first half of August due to technical issues, will remain shut for the next 10-15 days.

PTT’s No 2 aromatics unit was not affected.

There will be no August spot cargoes as a result of the shutdown but term quantities have not been affected. July shipment material were not affected as well, the source added.
