Commentary: Corrections to the Top 100 Distributors

We aim for perfection in the ICIS Top 100 Chemical Distributors issue. While the main listing was true to form on this front (with one exception based on currency), we have regrettably fallen short in our geographic leaders tables.

In the European Leaders table, Univar should have been included as #3 with $1.78bn in 2015 sales, although with a note that these are sales for its EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) segment.

Petrochem Middle East was omitted in all the regional leaders tables. In Middle East/Africa, it would actually have been #1 with $626.4m in sales, in Europe #45 with $109.5m in sales (given Univar’s listing), in North America #50 with $67.9m in sales, in Asia #13 with $226.0m in sales (taking into account Redox below), and in Latin America #31 with $13.85m in sales.

Connection Chemical would have been #71 in North America with $42.0m in sales (taking into account Petrochem Middle East). Lumar Quimica would have been #101 in Europe with $20.09m in sales. Charkit Chemical would have been #38 in Latin America with $6m sales. In the main listing, Redox was listed at #30 with $486.5m in sales.

However, that figure is for Australian dollars. Using the currency conversion rate for 31 December 2015, the 2015 sales figure comes to $355.6m, which would place it at #36 in the main listing, and #8 in the Asia leaders table rather than #7.
