China August imports of most petchems grow year on year

SINGAPORE (ICIS)–China’s August imports of most petrochemicals grew on a year-on-year basis, with benzene surging more than fourfold to 135,502 tonnes, official data showed.
Out of the 52 chemical products whose trades in China were tracked by ICIS, 32 registered increases in imports volumes; 20 showed declines, based on China Customs data.
On a month-on-month basis, 32 registered increases, 19 showed declines and 1 was stable, the data showed. (Please see table below)
In the olefin chain, butadiene imports in August more than doubled to 22,730 tonnes from the same period last year, while ethylene and propylene were up 12% and 5% to 133,327 tonnes and 208,106 tonnes, respectively.
Among other aromatics products, paraxylene registered a 7% year on year increase in imports to 1.03m tonnes.
Phenol imports, meanwhile, had more than a twofold increase to 30,463 tonnes.
Among plasticizers, imports of 2-EH climbed 84% year on year to 24,064 tonnes, while those of dioctyl phthalate (DOP) jumped 66% to 16,531 tonnes.
