PP imports into Belarus increased by 12.9% in Jan-August 2016

MOSCOW (MRC)–Imports of polypropylene (PP) into Belarus slightly exceeded 60,600 tonnes in first eight months of this year, up 12.9% year on year, with the greatest increase for propylene copolymers, according to MRC DataScope.

August PP imports into Belarus exceeded 8,100 tonnes against 7,600 tonnes a month earlier, with local companies buying almost twice the volume of polypropylene copolymers, whereas homopolymer PP purchases decreased.

Total PP imports into the country exceeded 60,600 tonnes in January-August, compared with 53,700 tonnes in the same period last year. The main increase in PP imports into the country accounted for injection moulding propylene copolymers.

The structure of PP supplies over the reported period looked as follows.

August imports of homopolymer PP into the Belarusian market decreased to 5,100 tonnes from 5,700 tonnes a month earlier. Local companies decreased the volume of purchases of injection moulding homopolymer PP in Europe.

Homopolymer PP imports increased to 41,200 tonnes in January-August 2016, against 38,300 tonnes year on year. The key suppliers of homopolymer PP were Russian producers, with their share in the total supply around 91%.

August imports of propylene copolymers into Belarus exceeded 3,000 tonnes against 1,900 tonnes a month earlier, with local companies increasing procurement volumes of injection moulding propylene copolymers in Russia and Germany.

Total imports of propylene copolymers into Belarus exceeded 19,400 tonnes in January-August, compared with 15,400 tonnes year on year. The main suppliers of propylene copolymers were also producers from Russia with a share of over 87%.
