Germany’s Linde opens hydrogen station for fuel-cell cars

LONDON (ICIS)–Linde on Thursday opened its own hydrogen fuelling station for public use at a site near Munich, the Germany-based industrial gases major said.

The investment underlines Linde’s commitment to commericalising hydrogen fuelling technology for fuel-cell cars and to building out Germany’s hydrogen refuelling network, it said.

The project involved the conversion of a Linde test-and-development centre at Unterschleissheim, north of Munich, to a public fuelling station. The revamp received funding from Germany’s federal government.

Linde has equipped more than 100 hydrogen fuelling stations around the world, usually in cooperation with partners from the energy or car industries.

The automotive industry is a major global consumer of petrochemicals which contributes more than a third of the raw material costs of an average vehicle.
