ICI’s specialty polymer and regional and industrial activities have become part of specialty chemicals, its packaging coatings operation is under the performance coatings, and its decorative activities is part of the decorative paints unit. Akzo Nobel states that it has made “significant progress” in transforming the company strategically, operationally and culturally. Its coatings and chemicals businesses are focusing on growth in the emerging markets of Asia, Eastern and Central Europe, and South and Central America through development and acquisitions.

 

On 1 January 2010, AkzoNobel will merge the company's polymer chemicals activities with its functional chemicals organisation.

 

Based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Akzo Nobel has 60,040 employees based in more than 80 countries and revenues in 2008 of Euro15.4bn.
