Asahi Kasei is a global developer and producer of speciality chemicals to a range of markets including fibres, chemicals, consumer products, housing, construction, electronics, and health care.

In January 2009, Asahi Kasei said it will transfer its nylon 6,6 business Leona back to its subsidiary Asahi Kasei Fibres from Asahi Kasei Chemicals on 1 April 2009.

 

Asahi is separated into the following segments:

 

Chemicals and Fibres

 

Chemicals

 

This sector comprises five business units: Chemicals and Plastics, Performance Plastics and Compounds, Performance Chemicals, Fabricated Home Products and Specialty Products and Systems. Major production facilities are located in Mizushima, Kawasaki, Nobeoka and Suzuka.

 

Fibres

  

Asahi Kasei fibres’ is the core operating company for all fibres and textiles operations of the Asahi Kasei group and includes materials for apparel and industrial applications.

 

Homes and construction materials

 

Homes

 

Homes and Construction Materials are the business units for this sector. Hebel, autoclaved lightweight concrete, forms the core of these operations.

 

Construction Materials

 

Asahi Kasei construction materials segment includes the company’s Hebel ALC panels, Neoma foam insulation panels, and a range of piles to meet market demands for value, performance, and environmental compatibility in the residential, commercial building, and civil engineering markets.

 

Electronics business

 

This operating sector spans a range of products for the electronics industry and includes digital/analogue mixed-signal LSI’s, sensors and high performance materials.

 

The electronics materials and devices company serves the global electronics industry with a range of products which meet the latest emerging performance demands.

 

Health Care business

 

Pharma

 

The pharma company has developed a variety of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical intermediates based on technology in fermentation, organic synthesis and biotechnology. A range of medical devices have been developed with Asahi Kasei's fibre technology and know-how in the field of membrane separation.

 

Asahi Kasei Kuraray medical and Asahi Kasei medical business segments are also included in the Health Care business.

Asahi Kasei Strategy & Financial Highlights

Asahi Kasei states that strategic investment is being advanced in a bid to lay the foundation for expansion and growth to achieve its “Growth Action – 2010” strategy initiative. The Growth Action - 2010 will run from fiscal 2006 through to fiscal year- 2010. Strategic pillars of the plan are the expansion of businesses characterised by global competitiveness and the enhancement of businesses focused on the domestic Japanese market.
