Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC (CPC), parent company of CPChem, is a producers of olefins and polyolefins as well as supplying aromatics, alpha olefins, styrenics and specialty chemicals. It is headquartered in Houston, US.

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP had sales of approximately $13bn in 2008, 32 manufacturing facilities plus 36 production and research facilities worldwide. It also has around 5,000 employees.

 

History

 

On 1 July 2000, Phillips (now ConocoPhillips) and Chevron (now ChevronTexaco) completed a 50/50 joint venture combining their worldwide chemicals businesses.

 

Company movements

 

In December 2007, the styrenics joint venture between Dow Chemical and Chevron Phillips Chemical will be known as Americas Styrenics.

 

The company will be based in Houston and have about 600 employees across the Americas.

 

Dow is contributing six polystyrene plants to Americas Styrenics - Torrance, California; Gales Ferry, Connecticut; Ironton, Ohio; Joliet, Illinois; Guaruja, Brazil and Cartagena, Colombia.

 

Dow's styrene plant in Camacari, Brazil, will not be included in the venture.

 

The deal was first announced in April 2007.

 

Chevron Phillips Chemical’s product offerings are divided into three business units:

 

Olefins and Polyolefins - ethylene, polyethylene, normal alpha olefins, polyalpha olefins, propylene, polypropylene and high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, conduit and pipe fittings.

 

Aromatics and Styrenics - cyclohexane, paraxylene (PX), styrene, polystyrene, benzene, K Resin and styrene-butadiene copolymers (SBC).

 

Specialty Products - mercaptans, mining chemicals, Soltex drilling mud additive, Ryton polyphenylene sulphide (PPS), TrackTek racing fuels, specialty organosulphur compounds.
