Eastman is a global chemical company with a broad portfolio of manufacturing technologies and chemical, plastic and fibre products. It has some 10,500 employees manufacturing and marketing more than 1,200 chemicals, fibres and plastics products. It had sales of $6.7bn (in 2008).

 

Eastman manufactures and sells chemicals and speciality polymers supplied to the inks, coatings, adhesives, sealants, textile industries, fine chemicals, performance chemicals and intermediates, speciality plastics, polyester plastics sold under the trademark Eastapak polymers, and fibres.

 

History

 

Founded in 1920 by George Eastman to supply basic photographic chemicals for Eastman Kodak, Eastman Chemical became an independent publicly traded company in January 1994.

 

Company movements

 

In March 2008, Eastman Chemical closed its $354m (Euro223m) deal to sell to Indorama its European assets that make polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and purified terephthalic acid (PTA).  The deal included Eastman's plants in the UK and the Netherlands. Eastman previously announced the deal in December 2007.
