FMC | Company Structure Information from ICIS

 

FMC is a producer of chemicals with manufacturing and mining operations in over 25 countries. It is composed of three chemical businesses - Agricultural Products, Industrial Chemicals and Specialty Chemicals and has around $3bn in sales (2008) and about 5,000 employees worldwide.

 

History

 

FMC originated as the Bean Spray Pump Company in the 1880s and was reincorporated as the Food Manufacturing Company in 1928, becoming FMC Corporation in 1961.

 

Company movements

 

In May 2008, FMC Corporation agreed to acquire the hydrocolloids ingredients business of International Specialty Products (ISP). FMC did not disclose financial terms of the deal. The acquisition will be integrated into FMC’s bio polymers division.

 

Agricultural Products

 

FMC Agricultural Products - provides crop protection and pest control products for worldwide markets. More than 50% of sales are derived outside the US.

 

FMC Pest Control - provides the latest technology solutions and tools for pest control operators, lawn care operators, golf course superintendents, nursery growers, tree care operators and homeowners.

 

Specialty Chemicals

 

FMC BioPolymer - is amongst the largest producers of alginate, carrageenan and microcrystalline cellulose.

 

FMC Lithium - manufactures lithium-based products and claims to be a technology leader in specialty organolithium chemicals and related technologies.

 

Novamatrix - produces ultra-pure biopolymers for medical uses.

 

Industrial Chemicals

 

FMC Alkali Chemicals - a major natural soda ash producer. Downstream products include sodium bicarbonate, sodium cyanide, sodium sesquicarbonate and caustic soda.

 

FMC Hydrogen Peroxide - is a worldwide producer of hydrogen peroxide, with manufacturing sites in the US, Canada, Mexico, Spain, the Netherlands and Thailand and a regional leader in North America.

 

FMC Active Oxidants - a supplier of persulphate products and a major producer of peracetic acid and other specialty oxidants.

 

Foret - is a major European chemicals business. Products include hydrogen peroxide, perborates, phosphates, silicates, zeolites, sulphur derivatives.
