International Flavours & Fragrances (IFF) creates and manufactures a variety of artificial aromas, flavours and fragrances. The compounds used in IFF's products are made both synthetically and from natural ingredients, such as flowers and fruits. Its flavours are principally sold to producers of prepared foods, dairy foods, beverages, confections and pharmaceuticals. Its fragrances are used in the manufacture of perfumes, cosmetics, soaps, and other personal care and household products.

IFF has 5,300 employees in 30 countries, and 70% of its revenues are generated outside the US. Its 2008 net sales were $2.4bn.
History
IFF began in 1929 when Dutch immigrant and perfumer, A L van Ameringen, and William Haebler formed a fragrance company, van Ameringen-Haebler, in New York, US. In 1958, it merged with Polak & Schwartz to form IFF.
Today, the van Ameringen family still controls about 20% of IFF.
IFF is organised globally under the broad umbrellas of business development and operations, rather than into separate divisions for flavours and fragrances.
