Kaneka’s business activities span a broad spectrum of markets ranging from plastics, expandable polystyrene (EPS) resins, chemicals and foodstuffs to pharmaceuticals, medical devices, electrical and electronic materials and synthetic fibres.
Kaneka is divided up into the seven business units: Chemicals, Synthetic Fibres and Others, Electronic Products, Functional Plastics, Life Science Products, Expandable Plastics and Products, and Foodstuffs Products.
Kaneka will strive for sustained growth by globally deploying value-added businesses in growing markets. The company has determined its future image to be a ‘globally recognised group’ by deploying diversified businesses in fields with full potential, building on differentiated, original technologies and constantly offering socially useful new values.
Kaneka will concentrate investment in management resources in growth sectors, making efforts to improve profitability through continual cost improvement activities. Research and development will target the next generation growth sectors, and overseas business operations will be further reinforced.
With headquarters in Osaka, Japan, the Kaneka group including consolidated subsidiaries has 7,321 employees and sales of Yen450bn in the financial year ended 31 March 2009.

Later the company diversified into polymers, fermentation, biotechnology and electronics, as well as other fields.
