Occidental Chemical (OxyChem), a wholly owned subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum, is a chemical manufacturer with interests in basic chemicals, vinyls and speciality products. OxyChem is a large producer of basic chemicals, such as chlorine and caustic soda as well as sodium chlorite, potassium hydroxide, chlorinated isocyanurate products and resorcinol, and a major manufacturer of chrome chemicals in North America. 
Occidental is focussed on maximising its profits and cash-flow from its core businesses, while making targeted investments to capture new opportunities for what it says is for future profitable growth. It has taken steps to strengthen the chemical segment so that it will benefit from improving margins in a growing global economy.
OxyChem's core chemical business was strengthened by the acquisition of two chlor-alkali (chlorine and co-product caustic soda) plants from Vulcan Materials, which increased Occidental’s chlor-alkali capacity by 23% to 3.3m tonnes/year.
