PolyOne is an international polymer services company with customer-focused operations in thermoplastic compounds, specialty resins, specialty polymer formulations, engineered films, colour and additive systems, and rubber compounding and thermoplastic resin distribution. 
The company is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, US and employs more than 4,800 employees at manufacturing sites in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, and joint ventures in North America and South America. In 2008 it had sales of $2.7bn.
History
PolyOne was formed on 31 August 2000 from the consolidation of The Geon Company (Geon) and The MA Hanna Company (Hanna).
Company movements
In October 2009, PolyOne sold its 50% stake in the Geon Polimeros Andinos (GPA) vinyl compounding joint venture to Mexichem. For more on this please see PolyOne sells stake in Colombian vinyl compounding jv to Mexichem on ICIS news.
In April 2008, PolyOne rebranded its vinyls business segment as Geon Performance Polymers.
In January 2008, PolyOne completed its previously announced acquisition of the assets and operations of Ngai Hing PlastChem, the vinyl compounding subsidiary of Ngai Hing Hong. A subsidiary of Ngai Hing Hong will hold a 5% interest in the new company that PolyOne will establish to conduct its vinyl compound business in Asia.

Specialty Engineered Materials
PolyOne's engineered materials business began with the acquisition of the German compounder Theodor Bergmann Kunstoffwerk and its sister company, Polibasa, in Spain. More recently, the product offering expanded to include products produced by Tekno Polimer, a compounder in Turkey. PolyOne is one of Europe's largest independent compounders of engineering polymers and thermoplastic elastomers.

Based in Ohio, US this unit is a source for plastic testing and polymer consultancy.
Specialty Colour, Additives and Inks
Screen printing inks - this unit offers a variety of screen printing inks.
Colour and Additives - A one-stop source of colourants, colour and additive systems, additive products, colour technology and support services. It is focused on the colour and additives markets.
Formulators
The formulators division custom formulates and manufactures polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyurethane products. Products are used in the automotive, apparel, appliance coatings, sports and recreational equipment and signage market segments.
Other services include materials testing, component analysis, custom compound development, colourant and additive services, design assistance and structural analyses.
It is composed of six companies (Acrol, Plasticotta, Dennis Chemical, Diversified Compounders, Plasto-O-Meric Operations and Wilflex Operations) and has seven sites around the world.
PolyOne Distribution
This division supplies thermoplastic resins to chemical companies in addition to providing assistance with material selection, technical development, quality control, storage and other services. It operates six customer service centres and ten repackaging plants across the US, Canada and Mexico.
Performance Products and Solutions
Geon Performance Polymers
The vinyl compounds group offers a line of products and services for extrusion. Its offerings are a good fit for a range of applications in construction, consumer goods, sheet products, medical, transportation, electrical, furniture, and vertical blinds. Its portfolio includes rigid and flexible vinyl compounds as well as dry blend compounds.
PolyOne dry blend compounds are designed for use with twin-screw extruders, and are used in end-use markets ranging from construction to home and office furnishings. Typical applications include pipe, siding, windows, sheet, vertical blinds, and furniture edging.
Geon Performance Polymers
The unit provides dispersion, blending, powder-coating and specialised suspension resins. They are sold globally and used in a variety of applications such as resilient roll flooring, artificial leather, can coatings, toys, and flexible gasket and tubing. The resins are produced at two US locations.
