Tessenderlo has set itself five-year strategic objectives for its portfolio of businesses. The first of these is to reduce the share of commodities to below 30% over this period. The second is to obtain a return on capital employed (ROCE) of at least 12% in all its businesses.

Resources will be made available for development in three business areas: plastics converting with emphasis on development in the countries of eastern Europe; gelatin with the aim of maintaining its position among the leaders by reinforcing its international presence; and businesses combining services and valorisation of by-products. Joint ventures will be favoured wherever it can increase its competitiveness in the main commodities.

In 2008, Tessenderlo had sales of around Euro2.8bn and 8,100 employees with around 70 industrial sites located in Europe.
