ICIS Innovation Awards 2014


This year's panel of judges for the ICIS Innovation Awards consists of five leading innovation experts with a wide range of business and consulting experience. They are looking for innovative projects that solve problems and provide solutions for companies, their customers and society at large, as well as the environment.

Dr Peter Nagler

Evonik Industries

Peter is chief innovation officer at Evonik Industries and was previously head of Corporate Innovation Strategy & Management. He holds a doctorate in Chemistry and began his professional career in 1986 at Degussa, a forerunner of Evonik.


Dr Neil Checker

Roland Berger Strategy Consultants

Neil Checker is a partner at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and part of the global chemicals leadership team, based out of the firm’s Dusseldorf office. Neil has over 30 years’ industry and consulting experience in the chemicals and process industries. He has worked internationally with major chemical companies including Akzo Nobel, BASF, Bayer, Dow Chemical, Lanxess, Reliance and SABIC amongst others on a range of strategic and operational issues.

He is also an advisor to many of the leading private equity firms that have invested in the sector including Advent, Apollo Blackstone, Carlyle, CVC and KKR.

Neil has a DPhil in Polymer Physics and is a member of the Institute of Directors.

Jacques Komornicki


Dr Jacques Komornicki is innovation manager at Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, and represents the SusChem European Technology Platform for the chemical industry. He has a PhD in chemistry and has worked for 30 years in R&D with Arkema and its predecessors.

Dr Peter Williams

INEOS Technologies

Peter was appointed CEO of INEOS Technologies in 2006 when the business was created as part of INEOS. Prior to joining INEOS, he worked for BP for 23 years in numerous leadership positions in both the UK and France. He has a DPhil in Chemistry from the University of York in the UK. He is also CEO of INEOS Bio.

Dr Werner Breuers


Werner is a board member of LANXESS. His responsibilities and strategic areas of operations include the Performance Polymers and Advanced Intermediates segments and the Global Procurement & Logistics, Innovation & Technology and Industrial & Environmental Affairs Group Functions. He studied chemistry at Aachen Technical University, obtaining a doctorate in science and began his career in 1989 as a chemist in the R&D division of Hoechst.

Pascal Juéry

Solvay Essential Chemicals

Pascal is a member of the executive committee of Solvay. He joined Rhone-Poulenc in 1988 and eventually became head of Rhodia’s Novecare business and a Rhodia executive committee member in 2010. After the recent merger of Rhodia with Solvay, he became President of Solvay Essential Chemicals. He is a graduate of the European Business School of Paris (ESCP).
