ICIS provides real-time alerts on the bench-mark free on board (FOB) Korea price. Noon and evening updates provide up to date of key information.
In addition, we offer a daily report giving an assessment of the full day’s trading levels along with a brief analytical summary.
At ICIS we provide detailed analysis of the market trends, especially in our weekly report. Current and planned shutdowns and outages in the region are tracked and a close eye is kept on other important drivers such as the trend in crude-oil and naphtha markets. And we also look at the downstream styrene monomer market.
Asia as an exporter of benzene is also strongly influenced by conditions in the US and European markets.
The coverage by the established global team at ICIS is invaluable for our customers as it provides timely and accurate information to help them make business decisions.

Updated to Q3 2016
Spot benzene prices were on an uptrend in the third quarter, with prices supported by an open arbitrage to the US. The increase in US prices, led by tight prompt supply due to limited import arrivals in the previous months, drove Asia FOB (free on board) Korea prices up to average at $684/tonne in early August. This saw exports to the US recovering to 82,534 tonnes in September, compared with August at below 40,000 tonnes.
Supply from South Korea increased in the quarter, following plant restarts after a number of turnarounds in the second quarter, including Jurong Aromatics' plant restart in mid-July, and lengthening supply in southeast Asia. Healthy demand from both China and the US kept prices afloat in the third quarter.
Benzene spreads with naphtha averaged at $251/tonne based on weekly prices, with spot FOB Korea prices for benzene at $638/tonne on average for the third quarter. TDP spreads recovered steadily and reached $118/tonne in the early quarter, before falling back to $33/tonne by the end of the quarter, resulting in few key producers in Japan and South Korea restarting their TDP units in mid-July.
