In the key China market, buyers were increasing their contractual volumes with domestic producers amid price volatility. As such, supply of domestic cargoes was limited. Supply of spot import cargoes into China was tight as producers were either channelling their volumes to their own downstream epoxy resins facilities or catering to demand in their own domestic markets. A few producers were also diverting cargoes into markets such as USA, Europe and India amid better netback.
Demand for spot import cargoes was hampered by a continued buy-sell gap. This is largely because domestic cargoes remain more competitively-priced. At the same time, most buyers were increasing their contractual volumes with domestic producers. While buyers acknowledge that supply of ECH outside China is tight, they were not keen to increase their buying indication for spot import material. In addition, sentiment in the key downstream epoxy resins sector was mixed during the quarter.
