Ethyl acetate Europe Transcript
ICS reports on ethyl acetate, referred to as Etac, in Europe, the US and Asia.
In Europe the report consists of spot prices for ethyl acetate and prices are quoted in euro per metric tonne on a free delivered northwest European basis.
The standard spot size in Europe is for a parcel that represents a full truck load of 20 to 25 tonnes
The report contains information about spot prices, monthly price-targets posted by producers, agreed business, demand-supply factors including any planned and unplanned production schedules.
It also includes a snapshot of developments for upstream products like ethanol, ethylene and acetic acid.
The European Etac report is generated after conversations with buyers, sellers and traders in the market. We take account of market sentiment as well as deals completed in the week.
Many users rely on the ICIS report in the basis of their contract negotiations, and find it an essential tool in discussions.

Updated to Q4 2016
Following significant hikes in the third quarter of 2016, European prices reached their peak in quarter four. A series of unfortunate events befell the Indian export industry in October and limited material sold to Europe. The bankruptcy of Hanjin shipping company saw hikes in shipping rates as well as feedstock costs climbing to make shipping to Europe a much riskier proposition.
The market balanced in November and prices stabilised with less errant individual deals. Importers had to adjust their buying habits as limited feedstocks meant that material was not always available short term in markets such as India. Long term planning became essential.
Prices began to drop in November and continued into December but not to the levels seen during the summer. As demand drops before Christmas, traders have begun competing on prices in an effort to move the last of their stock. This has pulled prices down at the end of the year.
