European ethylene oxide (EO) formula contract prices for July decreased following the downward movement of the ethylene settlement for the month, according to ICIS calculations. In August, formula based EO contracts rolled over due to stability seen in the ethylene market, and in September, EO contract prices climbed due to ethylene feedstock gains. After a period of tightness stemming from a series of planned EO shutdowns, supply returned to a balanced condition over the summer. In September, a few scheduled turnarounds took place, which could squeeze supply levels once again.
European ethylene oxide derivative demand was described as healthy in the third quarter, given a series of planned turnarounds in Europe, which constricted supply. EO derivatives such as monoethylene glycol (MEG) saw some price increases over the summer and a reasonable level of demand.
