The majority of polyacetal (POM) contracts for the first quarter of the year rolled over on stable market fundamentals despite increased production costs following the methanol feedstock gains. First-quarter contract talks were described as tough and lasted longer than expected, with producers attempting to recover margins after the hike in methanol feedstock prices. Some buyers met the targeted increases with resistance, according to several sources, because of a balanced supply situation. Although the majority of contracts were stable, there were a small amount of increases heard, depending on starting point and account. With persistent firmness still apparent in the upstream methanol market, some are expecting a delayed feedstock pass-through to occur in the downstream POM market. As a result, there is some early talk of upward pricing pressure for upcoming second quarter contract negotiations.

Polyacetal or POM is a crystalline plastic often used for technical applications due to its strength, ductility (ability to be drawn into threads without breaking) and good machinability. Its properties make it suitable for click connections (e.g. bicycle lamp holders). The material is known for its stiffness, strength and hardness up to 120ºC, and is as elastic as many metals. It is wear resistant and has a very low friction coefficient. The colour is opaque white, and carbon black can be added to protect the product from UV-light.
