Updated to Q2 2018
The squeeze on the European polycarbonate (PC) market has continued, and material has remained short over the second quarter. Buyers have not been able to get as much material as they need to function sufficiently, but this is no different to what was happening in the first quarter. PC demand in Asia has continued to grow and producers have been able to continue commanding higher prices, incentivising European producers to export more material.
Although prices have continued to rise, buyers have had to accept these levels in order to continue manufacturing material, to meet downstream demand and to keep afloat. Not all PC buyers have not been able to pass on increases to customers, as markets such as the automotive sector are resistant to higher prices. Despite the impact of high prices and limited supply faced by buyers, demand has not yet collapsed under the pressure.
