Updated to Q2 2018
Supply levels of polypropylene (PP) in Turkey remained restricted throughout the second quarter, due to global structural tightness. There was a period of maintenance in the Middle East in the early part of the quarter. Ramadan soon followed in mid-May and saw most suppliers reduce their productions hours. Stock levels were low at the end of the quarter following the previous period of reduced supply. Raffia supplies have been lower than fibre for most of the quarter, due to the strong draw to Asia.
PP demand suffered in the second quarter, as Turkey’s faltering economy increased nerves across the market. The value of the lira dropped throughout the second quarter and the surprise announcement of the Presidential election gave buyers another reason to stay on the sidelines. The holy month of Ramadan was also a factor but one that all market participants would have been planning for. Lack of demand meant that suppliers failed to gain any traction in the market during this period, despite climbing upstream costs.
The ICIS Turkey Polypropylene (PP) Price Report provides weekly assessed import prices for raffia and fibre grades broken down by country of origin and duties. It also reviews prices from other regions including Europe, Egypt, Israel, central, north and southeast Asia and the US for grades such as raffia, fibre, homopolymer injection moulding, copolymer, and BOPP, when available.
A comprehensive market overview is also included for you to understand the impact of relevant upstream and downstream markets on prices.
