Ammonia Methodology Consultation – Summary of responses

Following the recent announcement that ICIS would be launching a formal methodology consultation process, we have received a number of responses from key market players. To read the anonymised public responses please click on the links below.

This summary takes into account all responses, both confidential and public.

The majority responded that the current ICIS ammonia methodology provides a reliable measure of market value.

Some respondents agreed that a North African FOB price including Algeria and Egypt would be sufficient for their needs.

Other respondents said an Algerian or North African FOB quote might be of use in the future, but not until it was clear how Algerian ammonia was being sold and priced.

ICIS decision

The responses do not provide any feedback indicating ICIS should change its current methodology.

The responses do not provide sufficient feedback for ICIS to consider introducing a new Algerian or North African FOB price at this point. However, ICIS will continue to consider potential changes in the future.

There were no responses on whether the Arabian Gulf and Iranian FOB prices should remain separate or combined. ICIS will not be proposing any immediate changes to the ammonia methodology.

Given a lack of response as to whether the FOB New Orleans quote was still relevant, ICIS will consult the industry further. Any decision to change this methodology will be communicated to subscribers using the usual channels and with the usual notice period.
