Imports of ethylene glycol (EG) and the subsequent excess spot availability dominated summer discussions, creating low prices. The September scene was less bearish, but recent experiences may affect 2017 negotiations that will undoubtedly occur on the sidelines of EPCA.
Overall, EG imports into the EU were up by over 21,000 tonnes in the first half of 2016 compared with the same period in 2015.
Material from Saudi Arabia was still greater than that from the US, despite a drop of 34,640 tonnes.
The US upped its exports to Europe by nearly 10,000 tonnes to 50,114 tonnes in 2016. Venezuela fell by nearly 2,000 tonnes, but still provided EU buyers with 25,106 tonnes in the first half of 2016. Russia was not far behind with its 1,505 tonne increase to 22,047 tonnes.
