European Power Market Outlooks 2016

European power markets are struggling to shake off the bearishness that denoted the end of 2015. A brief cold turn in temperatures early in 2016 was too short-lived to cause real concern, while in addition, renewable output continues to grow while coal and gas prices remain weak.

Counters to the weakness do exist. Potential power supply in the UK, for example, has shrunk, which adds a note of caution to that market. A sustained cold snap or heat-wave could have an impact too on mainland Europe, although the supply outlook has improved in northwest Europe. Even in Central and Eastern Europe markets, companies remain wary of mid-summer or winter demand spikes, despite the bearishness surrounding power markets.

Examine how these changing market conditions have impacted European power markets, with expert analysis of the likely market outlook for 2016.
