French nuclear power availability is at an historic low, after outages at nuclear generation facilities kicked off in September. Nuclear generation is France’s main source of electricity.
Many outages have been extended due to an ongoing safety review. Some reactors are back online, some reactors are still in outage, while others are scheduled to go offline in December.
Monthly electricity exports to some neighbouring systems have been cut drastically, while imports have soared in order for France to meet its power demand. The return of 16 reactors is still uncertain. This would be 16MW, or 25% of the French nuclear fleet.
This ICIS infographic shows the present nuclear availability in France as of 11 November 2016, and compares net export/import positions on French borders in September vs October.
