Rough outage could lead to volatile winter at NBP gas hub

Britain’s NBP gas hub will be prone to spikes throughout the 2016/17 winter as the system copes without its largest storage site, traders told ICIS.

An outage at the storage unit, Rough, which accounts for 70% of Britain’s gas storage capacity, was extended until March/April 2017 from the original date of 3 August 2016.

ICIS analyses what impact this outage has already had on key European gas prices and looks forward to see how northwest European gas demand could change this winter, as the full effects of the shutdown are felt.
