ICIS has a network of locally based reporters providing coverage of regional Isopropanol markets. They provide not just pricing information, but an in-depth understanding of the factors driving prices and market fluctuations.
Updated to Q2 2018
European isopropanol (IPA) supply has fallen in Q2 as a result of lower availability from the US. The weaker euro vs the dollar and high domestic prices in America have made US-Europe arbitrage increasingly difficult. Because of this and spreads against feedstocks returning to historical norms, European IPA prices’ downward trend came to an end in Q2. Supply from domestic producers, however, has remained relatively consistent in Q2 with no unplanned shutdowns reported in the market.
European IPA demand has risen quarter on quarter in line with typical seasonal trends in Q2. IPA is linked to the construction industry which sees an upswing in activity over the summer as a result of improved weather. However, demand is lower on a year-on-year basis as a result of the weaker and more uncertain outlook for the European economy, which has resulted in reduced business activity and a more pessimistic outlook in PMI surveys.

Isopropanol (IPA), also known as isopropyl alcohol, is a low-cost solvent used in many industrial and consumer products and as an extractant.
The European isopropanol (IPA) report is a weekly report published every Friday. Now, in that report we focus on pharmaceutical and technical grade prices. What that does is give us a holistic view across the market. So we know the trends that are going on; we know prices, and we can compare those prices to come up with a complete price for isopropanol.
We speak to all the key producers, all of the key buyers and traders. IPA is a predominantly distribution led market.
So we speak to a number of distributors in order to gain a picture across the entirety of the market. What that does, is that it ensures that our information is accurate, timely and reliable
It means that we will know what’s going on in the little corners and the niche areas of the market and so that we don’t miss anything.
