ICIS maintains a network of locally based reporters, providing not only price assessments but also market commentary and analysis of phthalate and non-phthalate plasticizers, to guide you in strategic planning, trading and negotiating contracts.
Updated to Q3 2015
European phthalic anhydride (PA) contract and spot prices fell considerably in the third quarter of the year, following steep drops in the upstream orthoxylene (OX) price and slowing demand.
The PA contract price mirrored the OX movement and fell by €20/tonne in August and €100/tonne in September.
September European PA liquid and flake contracts were finalised at €907-957/tonne FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe).
Spot prices saw bigger decreases in a slowing, well-supplied market. In the second quarter, spot prices went up amid some supply constraints.
Swedish producer Perstorp was in a turnaround in the second half of September, but no impact on market dynamics was noted by sources.
In July, the PA contract price rose by €10/tonne with not much impact on spot prices.
