Updated to Q1 2020
Availability is expected to remain healthy in Q1. There are no planned maintenance programmes heard of, upstream supply is healthy and despite some export business, Europe remains a structurally long market. In early December, Oxea declared force majeure to its upstream suppliers of feedstock for oxo-alcohols. While this will not impact its ability to cover its contract volumes, some suggest this sends a strong message to the market that inventories through the supply chain are high.
Demand does traditionally strengthen as Q1 develops. January should see an amount of restocking and March could see the start of peak season consumption for the paints and coatings sector. However, the industry is coping with great uncertainty on the global markets and downstream expectations for growth are flat for the short to medium term.
We offer the following regional Oxo-alcohols analysis and news coverage to keep you informed of factors and developments affecting prices in the Europe Oxo-alcohols marketplace.

The alcohols (NBA, IBA, and 2-EH) have some uses just as solvents, but are primarily used as feedstocks for other products.
The European ICIS oxo-alcohols report follows isobutanol (IBA), normal butanol (NBA), 2-ethyl-hexanol (2-EH) and plasticizer pricing on a weekly basis.
The report contains two main plasticizers, dioctyl phthalate (DOP) and di-isononyl phthalate (DINP). As well as a delivered price for distribution within Europe, it includes free-on-board (FOB) prices for export.
Movement in upstream markets such as crude oil, propylene, phthalic anyhdride (PA) and orthoxylene (OX) are important in the oxo-alcohol markets.
Contract settlements and discussions are always included in the report.
As the market is a global one, the European report also tracks movement in Asian markets.
European availability is tight, and some sources attribute this as an advantage in the Chinese market, which has soaked up volumes that might otherwise have been available for Europe.
