The Asian POM market is volatile and continues to grow quickly. ICIS can give you weekly updates on price movements, plus information on supply and demand that is driven by China and other key POM players in Asia, making sure you have the data you need to make confident commercial decisions.
Updated to Q4 2018
Both domestic and import supply were stable quarter on quarter as Chinese and other northeast Asia producers operated their plants at stable rates. A Chinese plant that restarted from mothball status in August continued to operate at only 30-40%. As feedstock methanol prices dropped sharply in the last quarter, producers chose to adjust their prices rather than their operating rates as they could still adjust healthy margins. Other Asian producers stated that they were still getting more demand than they could fully supply, despite the downturn in demand.
Demand in China fell, partly due to the Golden Week holiday, but largely due to the trade war escalation between the U.S and China. Demand weakened again close to the end of the year, with end-users cutting their purchases in order to maintain low inventories, after their own operations wind down from the year-end lull. During the same period, feedstock methanol prices plunged, allowing polyacetal producers to lower their prices in response to the wide demand while maintaining their margins.
We offer the following regional Polyacetal analysis and news coverage to keep you informed of factors and developments affecting prices in the Asia Polyacetal marketplace.

Polyacetal or POM is a crystalline plastic often used for technical applications due to its strength, ductility (ability to be drawn into threads without breaking) and good machinability. Its properties make it suitable for click connections (e.g. bicycle lamp holders). The material is known for its stiffness, strength and hardness up to 120ºC, and is as elastic as many metals. It is wear resistant and has a very low friction coefficient. The colour is opaque white, and carbon black can be added to protect the product from UV-light.
ICIS produces weekly reports covering the Asian POM market that enable industry players to monitor price movements and trading activities for key markets in Asia, including China and other NE Asian countries, which can potentially influence the overall global market.
Recognising that China is a key area of demand, the report features expert analysis on the trade dynamics of China and its global impact on price and market movements. As a result, the information in the report is useful not just to industry participants in Asia, but also to businesses outside of Asia that are interested in the supply and demand dynamics of the POM market. Production news, capacities and feedstock market updates are also covered to ensure that you get a holistic view of the overall POM supply-and-demand situation in Asia.
