The ICIS US polyethylene terephthalate (recycled) (R-PET) price report, gathered and verified by locally based industry experts, is a vital source of information on prices, market movements, domestic opportunities and export trends.
It includes benchmark prices for PET bottle bales, R-PET flakes and R-PET pellets for North America as well as PET bottle bale prices for Mexico.
Updated to Q3 2018
Supply of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (R-PET) was steady in the third quarter. Producers had ample levels of raw material amid peak bottle consumption season driven by hot temperatures across North America. Prices rose on the back of strong demand and alongside a tight virgin resin market. Interest in R-PET has been steadily increasing for the last year amid green initiatives by brand owners and rising virgin resin prices.
Demand for R-PET in the US continued to be very strong in the third quarter of 2018 on the back of brand owners’ push toward increased recycled content in packaging. Demand was supported by increasing prices in the virgin resin market, which drove some buyers toward recycled material. Like virgin material, recycled producers were heard sold out during the quarter.
