Updated to Q1 2021
PE supply in Latin America will vary by country. Brazil is expected to maintain marginal material availability improvement in Q1 resulting from increased utilisation rates in Brazil but planned maintenance between Q1 and Q2 will limit upside potential. Domestic supply and inventory levels in Mexico are decreasing rapidly due to lost production. Imports will be required if Braskem Idesa is unable to negotiate restoration of gas supply.
Demand for PE in Q1 will likely increase primarily due to increased packaging needs for essential goods but is further supported by stronger construction or industrial activity in major regional markets. Additionally, changes in consumer spending patterns allow for increased resin consumption resulting from spending on home improvement projects.
We offer the following regional Polyethylene analysis and news coverage to keep you informed of factors and developments affecting prices in the Latin America Polyethylene marketplace.

Low density polyethylene (LDPE) is used predominantly as a packaging film, either on its own or blended with linear low density PE to improve mechanical properties.
The polyethylene (PE) report for Latin America provides domestic prices for the most widely used grades of PE in several key Latin American markets.
It has prices from Mexico, Columbia, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina and Chile, assessed in the domestic currencies of each country – a unique feature of ICIS reports.
It also includes commentary on feedstocks, plant outages, policy changes, news and currency fluctuations.
A table with international prices is also included to facilitate comparisons for import/export operations. We talk to buyers, producers, distributors and traders every week to obtain a good cross section of market information.
We also assess the data using ICIS intelligence about upstream and downstream markets, including logistics, seasonal patterns and historical data.
