Updated to Q3 2018
Supply of PVC in Q3 was limited in India as major producers reduced offer quantities to the region in the wake of the traditional lull period. Domestic producers also reduced operating rates in anticipation of the weak demand during the monsoons, to cater to the sporadic spot trade. In the Middle East, supply was similarly limited as participants sidelined import cargo in favour of domestic product, resulting in lesser offers for import in the region.
Q3 saw very poor demand in India as the country experienced one of its worst monsoon seasons. While the monsoon season was the traditional lull period, 2018 saw an extended monsoon season. In addition, depreciation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar further dampened demand. In the Middle East, demand was lacklustre in the wake of several holidays in the region. Market participants put stockpiling activities on hold, preferring to procure domestically as-needed instead.
