ICIS provides independent price assessments, news and analysis for hexane, white spirit and naphtha solvents markets in the ICIS Europe Refinery Solvents report.
The weekly report covers price assessments in spot markets for hexane, white spirit and naphtha solvents markets in northwest Europe, Rotterdam and the UK.
Updated to Q4 2016
White spirit prices in Europe fluctuated in the third quarter. In mid-October, prices hit an annual high, remaining flat for a few weeks into November and decreasing before rising in the first week of December. When market feedback has not been available, these prices have been calculated using feedstock movement from two weeks before the reports were published. White spirit prices in the UK for Q3 have generally been flat apart from a rise in October. This increase was attributed to the weakness of the British pound.
European naphtha solvent’s price was turbulent between October and December. After dipping in October it rose sharply up before plummeting again in mid-November. The weeks that followed were equally erratic with the product generally unable to match the prices seen in the summer of 2016. Prices are generally calculated using feedstock movement from a fortnight before the reports are published. This is only the case if there is not enough market feedback to confirm prices. Naphtha solvent UK prices have been stable throughout the third quarter.
Hexane in Europe had a gradual climb in prices until November when it spiked up to hit the highest price of the year. It then steeply dropped before gradually increasing once more at the start of December. Prices in October were affected by the olive season. If market feedback is not available, prices for hexane in Europe are calculated using feedstock movement from two weeks before the reports were published.
UK prices for hexane have been unmoved apart from an increase at the beginning of October.
