4 Modules across 4 days (Virtual Course)


The Petrochemicals Training Course is delivered across four days and divided into four modules. Each module tackles the pillars of the petrochemical industry starting from the building blocks leading to the factors that shape the future direction of the market. The modules are designed to focus on specific themes such as feedstocks, basic derivatives, market trends and more.

  • Module #1 (day one): Industry fundamentals and petrochemical building blocks
    In this module, the trainers will dive deeper into raw materials that are used to make petrochemicals and the basics of olefins, polymers and their derivatives.
  • Module #2 (day two): Aromatics, Oil and Gas
    In this module you will look in detail at the intermediates and products derived from aromatics and the relationship between oil and gas and petrochemicals.
  • Module #3 (day three): Understanding pricing and cost drivers
    This module examines the key petrochemical market trends and factors that are affecting the price of petrochemicals, business drivers in the energy transition and industry challenges.
  • Module #4 (day four): Looking into factors that are shaping the future of the petrochemicals industry
    Driven by our customers’ feedback and defining trends today, module #4 includes new additions such as the impact of inflation, the new China and sustainability in the future of petrochemicals.

John Richardson – Consultant, ICIS Asia

John Richardson – Consultant, ICIS Asia

John Richardson is a highly experienced trainer and chemicals industry analyst, who has been working in the industry for 18 years. Based in Asia-Pacific, John has a deep knowledge of the companies and people who have transformed the region into the world’s major production and consumption region. His aim is to provide insightful, factually-based analysis of the key issues facing the industry. His views are highly valued by senior executives, who appreciate his balanced and independent approach.

From 2006 until 2013, John was the Director for ICIS Training, where he successfully launched the business in the region, providing a wide range of courses covering petrochemicals, oil refining, fertilizers and base oils. He now works for the ICIS Consulting team. John has also co-authored an e-book, Boom, Gloom and the New Normal, with Paul Hodges of United Kingdom-based consultancy, International eChem. The book, which has been published by ICIS, examines how demographic factors and events in financial markets have reshaped the global economy. His Asian Chemical Connections blog has a wide regional and global readership.

Nigel Davis – Course Director, ICIS

Nigel Davis – Course Director, ICIS

Nigel has been part of the ICIS training team since its inception. A chemist by training, Nigel is Insight Editor with ICIS and contributes regularly to the 24-hour online chemicals news service.

Nigel has written about the chemical industry in many publications since 1979, including news and company magazines, encyclopaedias and specialist reports. For 13 years he wrote and edited the newsletter Chemical Insight. He presents regularly at conferences and training events and has widely shared his understanding of the sector.

Nigel is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and through the RSA takes a general interest in industry and business matters.

Jane Massingham – Deputy Managing Editor – Europe, ICIS

Jane Massingham – Deputy Managing Editor Europe, ICIS

Jane is Deputy Managing Editor at ICIS and currently covers some of the propylene derivative markets. Since joining ICIS in the Paris office in 1993, Jane has covered a plethora of petrochemical markets in Europe.

These have included 12 years on the MTBE and gasoline components markets that moved daily and was integral in launching “real time” price alert service (a service ahead of its time in the late 1990s). Jane currently manages a small team of editors while continuing to cover the ACN, Oxo’s and Plasticizer markets.

Nazif Nazmul - Markets Editor, ICIS

Nazif Nazmul – Markets Editor, ICIS

Nazif is a Markets Editor at ICIS with a keen interest on the energy transition. As a London-based markets editor at ICIS since 2019, he is driven by reporting on the latest economic, legislative, technological, and logistical developments in the European biofuels landscape.

Nazif completed his MA in International Political Economy from King’s College London in 2017 and has since covered biofuel market developments in Beijing and London.

Nazif works closely on monitoring the evolution of biofuels and biochemicals markets, and is committed to identifying and gaining a better understanding of the emerging role of such commodities in the global energy transition.

Paula Leardini

Paula Leardini – Senior Analyst & Americas Analyst Team Lead, Plastics Recycling, ICIS

Paula conducts research of recycling markets in the Americas at ICIS. Her role includes data collection and analysis on recycling supply in the region as well as maintaining a deep understanding of global recycling initiatives and trends.

Prior to ICIS, Paula was a Project Manager at Townsend Solutions. She was responsible for Sustainability with focus on recycling and bioplastics. Paula also worked for Braskem in Strategic Planning, Commercial Controllership, and Strategic Marketing.
