European Power Markets in 2050
Overview:
Industrial demand makes up over a third of final electricity demand in EU countries, making it the biggest consumer among all sectors. In the context of our Power Horizon 2050 project, we have modelled industrial electricity demand out to 2050 for five western European countries (Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Austria). The model is based on an analysis of the most important drivers of historical electricity demand in four industrial sectors (primary metals, chemicals, pulp and paper, and non-metallic minerals).
We have created forecasts for our base case, as well as for four additional scenario pathways, which are driven by climate ambition and degree of electrification. Take a look at our infographic for an overview of our modelling approach and summary of the high-level results.
