KUALA LUMPUR (CNI)--Malaysia's national petroleum company, Petronas, will build a multi-million ringgit railway linking two major petrochemical sites on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia within two years, CNI learned Tuesday.

The line will run from Kerteh, Terengganu, to Kuantan, Pahang.

Terengganu's Chief Minister, Wan Mokhtar Ahmad, said the railway would facilitate the transportation of raw materials for industrial needs including those of the petrochemicals sector.

"With the rail link, goods from both towns can be exported through Kemaman Port and Kuantan Port in Gebeng," he added.
