SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Daelim Industrial Corp, the South Korean construction and engineering company, has won the contract to build a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit in Saudi Arabia, a company official said on Thursday.

The company won the $660m (Euro563m) contract together with Italy’s Tecnimont. The Al-Jubail project is jointly owned by Saudi Arabia’s Sahara Petrochemical and polyolefins major Basell.

Daelim would build the 450,000 tonne/year PDH unit, while Tecnimont would construct a 450,000 polypropylene (PP) plant, said the official. Construction work will start in January 2006, and the project is due for completion in September 2008, he said.

ICIS news earlier reported that the PP plant would use Basell’s Spherizone process technology and the PDH unit would be based on the UOP Oleflex process, with Saudi Aramco supplying the propane feedstock. Basell would handle the worldwide PP marketing.
