SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taekwang Industrial will shut its propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant in Ulsan, South Korea, on Tuesday, bringing forward its turnaround by about a week, a company source said.
The PDH unit has a capacity to produce 250,000 tonnes/year of propylene and would be restarted around 13 March after a three-week maintenance, said the source on Monday.
"The cost of purchasing spot propylene cargoes was high, so we brought forward the shutdown," he added.
The company had been buying spot cargoes for February and March delivery to feed its downstream acrylonitrile (ACN) plant, which would be running normally during the PDH shutdown.
