SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Zhongyuan Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Sinopec, has started up its 600,000 tonnes/year methanol-to-olefin (MTO) plant in Henan on 10 October, a company source said on Friday.

The company has also raised the capacity of its polyethylene (PE) plant to 260,000 tonnes/year from 200,000 tonnes/year through debottlenecking while it has also started up a 100,000 tonnes/year polypropylene (PP) unit, raising its total PP capacity to 160,000 tonnes/year, the source added.

The MTO facility, working on a proportion of 3:1 will be able to produce 200,000 tonnes/year of olefins, consisting of either propylene or ethylene.

The company currently has a 180,000tonnes/year naphtha cracker, the source said.

The MTO project will offer the feedstock to both its PE and PP units.
