SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Haiwei Group plans to build four 500,000 tonne/year propane dehydrogenation (PDH) units in Hebei province over a period of five years, a company source said on Tuesday.
The company has started construction of the first unit that will produce propylene at Hengshui city, with the start-up expected in 2014, the source said.
It has also started building a 60,000 cubic metres (cbm) propane tank for the first PDH unit, the source said.
Haiwei Group plans to build two PDH units in Hengshui city, and another two units in Huanghua city, said the source.
Start-ups of the three propylene-producing facilities are expected in 2015-2017, the source said.
The two units at Hengshui will provide feedstock to Haiwei’s 600,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant, which is now under construction, said the source.
With a combined propylene capacity of 2m tonnes/year, Haiwei’s project is the largest such venture in China so far, according to industry sources.
