SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) has started commercial production at its new 300,000 tonne/year toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) plant at the Chempark Dormagen site in western Germany, market sources said on Wednesday.
The information could not be immediately verified with the BMS' headquarters in Germany. The plant has been on line since mid-November, according to market sources, with product being sold in the European markets.
Official inauguration of the plant is expected to take place in the first half of December, they said.
In September, BMS was expecting to inaugurate the TDI plant before end-December, a source close to the company said.
BMS supplies TDI to the Middle East.
The new capacity will add further pressure to the oversupplied Middle East market, industry sources said.
