HOUSTON (ICIS)–Canadian fertilizer producer Nutrien said their facilities and operations were not damaged or shutdown in Florida or Louisiana by Hurricane Ian, and it currently has storm preparedness plans in action at their sites in Georgia and North Carolina.

The producer has plants at White Springs, Florida, which produces phosphate rock, phosphoric acid and monoammonium phosphate (MAP), and at Geismar, Louisiana which makes ammonia, nitric acid and urea ammonium nitrate solution (UAN).

A company spokesperson said on Friday that both are fully operational.

“Neither our White Springs, FL nor our Geismar, LA facilities were damaged by the hurricane nor were operations shut down,” said a Nutrien spokesperson.

“I can’t say at this time what, if any, impact the hurricane may have had on transportation infrastructure related to each site.”

Over in Georgia Nutrien has a nitrogen facility in August and phosphate facility in Aurora, North Carolina. The producer said the safety of their employees comes first, and while they are continuing to monitor weather tracking and official advisories they have not stopped operations in either state.

“At this time, we have storm preparedness plans in place and are battening down the hatches at Augusta and Aurora but have not closed operations, nor do we expect significant impacts. It seems to be tracking well east of Augusta,” said Nutrien spokesperson.
