LONDON (ICIS)--Ethydco (The Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company), will start up its polyethylene (PE) and ethylene plants in Alexandria, Egypt, during the second quarter of 2016, sources said on Wednesday.

There are two 200,000 tonne/year PE plants at the site, and a 460,000 tonne/year ethylene plant, according to the company’s website.

Sources in Europe said linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE) injection, film, blowmoulding and pipe grades, would be available from the new production site.

The company was not immediately available for comment, but a company source had said earlier this year that the site was due to commence production in the second quarter of 2016.

According to the company’s site, the site had been due to start up in the fourth quarter of 2015

Marketing general manager Ahmed Abouzeid had said that Ethydco intends to export to markets in Europe, Asia, and Africa through a network of several distributors, according to a local press report.
