US July daily ethylene production falls 1.4%

HOUSTON (ICIS)–US daily ethylene production in July fell by 1.4% from June, according to data from consulting firm Jacobs Consulting.

The company’s Hodson Report showed July daily ethylene production at 168.93m lb/day (76,626 tonnes/day), down from 171.31m lb/day in June.

The overall US cracker operating rate fell by 1.3 percentage points in July, to 95.7% from 97.0%.

With one extra day of production, total ethylene production rose to 5.237bn lb, up by 1.9% from the June total of 5.139bn lb.

The report said the overall US cracker feedslate shifted slightly heavier despite increased ethane usage, as propane lost share to naphtha and gas oil.

The report said that butane was the most economically attractive feed, followed by ethane and then propane.
